Duty Planner Service
Livingstone Shire Council is committed to giving our customers and stakeholders efficient, responsive and friendly service. Part of our commitment to provide a quality service includes free general planning and property advice as well as pre-lodgement discussions.
Council’s Development Assessment Unit provides a general enquiry service for planning related matters. Provided that customers have a clear idea of what they want to do, the Duty Planner will be able to assist them with what Council controls apply to their proposal and answer any questions they may have about the process.
Talking to the Duty Planner is a good starting point and should help you to decide if your proposal will be acceptable to Council, or if you need to reconsider aspects of the proposal. 

How can the Duty Planner Help?
The Duty Planner can provide information on the following: 
  • the zoning of your land;
  • whether particular developments are appropriate on a parcel of land; 
  • Planning Scheme information including zoning and code requirements; 
  • documentation required to lodge a development application;
  • application fees and infrastructure charges; 
  • how the development process will work; 
  • site specific planning interpretation, such as site constraints; and 
  • the type of development application you may require for certain developments.
Where possible, the Duty Planner will suggest alternatives or acceptable solutions for you to consider if appropriate to your development requirements.
Getting further advice
Whilst Council aims to assist you through the planning process, preparing a development application can be a complex task and you may find it useful to get expert help with preparing your application. Different professionals may be able to assist you with your development project, such as architects, engineers, designers, surveyors and planners. Before you engage an expert to work on your project it is recommended that you do some research to make sure they provide the service you need, obtain several quotes and ask for details of other similar projects that they may have worked on.

The Duty Planner is available between the hours of 8:30am to 12:30pm weekdays.
