Livingstone Shire Council has signed the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) charter, alongside 30 Livingstone Shire businesses, to demonstrate its commitment to supporting small businesses in the community.

Mayor Andy Ireland, Council CEO Cale Dendle, Queensland Small Business Commissioner Dominque Lamb, and President of Capricornia Chamber of Commerce Phil Henry officially signed the charter at a Small Business Month networking event on Tuesday, 10 May 2023.

The SBFC initiative was established by the Queensland Small Business Commissioner (QSBC) to recognise and support Queensland councils who are actively working to help local small businesses survive and thrive.

Mayor Andy Ireland, Portfolio holder of Economic Development and Regional Advocacy and Intergovernmental Relations, said that Council is proud to join the Small Business Friendly Program (SBF).

“Signing the charter opens the door to Council to receive more support from the QSBC and will strengthen Council’s relationship with local chambers of commerce and the small business community,” Mayor Ireland said.

"Small businesses are the heart and hubs of regional communities such as ours. They are our families, our friends, our neighbours, and their hard work and dedication keeps our community strong.

“The SBFC charter will help Council to be mindful of small businesses and their needs and priorities when making decisions that may impact them.

“Council is committed to supporting small businesses in the community and has previously supported its small business community through a range of programs and initiatives.

“Going forward, Council plans to continue its support for small businesses by implementing new programs and initiatives to help them grow and thrive.”
