Livingstone RADF recipients share in over $35,000 to make their arts projects a reality

A new round of RADF recipients will make their creative mark in Livingstone Shire through a variety of events, workshops, public art and more in the coming months.

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government program through an Arts Queensland and Livingstone Shire Council partnership to support local arts and culture.

It helps to promote the significance and value of arts, culture and heritage as the key to supporting diversity and inclusivity, growing stronger regions and providing training, education and employment opportunities for Queensland artists and local communities.

A Keppel Sands local as well as teacher and artist for the last 40 years, Terry Sykes is about to get started on painting vibrant murals across six power poles around the township after receiving a RADF grant.

“The project consists of 16 posts already painted on Roden Street, and the current funding will allow for another six posts painted along Taylor Street towards the caravan park,” Mt Sykes said.

“The imagery on the posts is drawn from stories of Keppel Sands history, celebrations of service organisations such as the SES, local fire brigade and school, as well as flora and fauna native to the region.

“The works have certainly brightened up the streetscape and we have received lots of positive feedback from the community.

“The Keppel Sands Community Advancement League (KSCAL) would like to thank Livingstone Shire Council and RADF for the funding to complete the ‘Paradise in South Pacific’ project in Keppel Sands.”

Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Arts Culture), Councillor Rhodes Watson said Livingstone Shire is one of 59 Queensland Councils to be part of the long-running RADF programme, which has benefitted countless local artists, groups, and organisations over the years.

“There is such a wonderful and wide variety of artists and groups who take advantage of this opportunity to advance and launch their ides to the wider community, while reinvigorating our local arts and culture scene,” Cr Watson said.

“From workshops, song writing mentors, retreats, talent searches, street art murals, live music events and art exhibitions, Council is proud to support these enriching projects.”

Arts Queensland is proud to partner with local government to support quality arts and cultural experiences across Queensland through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
