Council Enhances Community Spaces through Unified Parks and Facilities Team

Livingstone Shire Council is proud to announce a significant organisational transformation that unifies its Parks and Facilities teams, streamlining operations and enhancing community benefits.

With over 300 parks, gardens, playgrounds, and community facilities, Livingstone Shire offers a wide array of spaces for residents to exercise, socialise, relax and enjoy nature. The recent merger of our Parks and Facilities teams, previously operating separately, aims to maximise efficiency in maintaining and improving these beloved communal areas.

This consolidation, effective since 1 July 2023, has already yielded positive results, including the completion of essential projects to enhance the environment, aesthetics, and well-being of the community.

One recent achievement is the upgrade of the fence adjacent to the Emu Park Surf Life Saving Club and along Keppel Street. The project replaced aging bollards with a secure 3-strand fence, effectively deterring unauthorized vehicle access to the foreshore area and enhancing the area's appearance.

Additionally, the unified Parks and Facilities team has overseen an upgrade to the on-site sewerage system at Cawarral Recreation Grounds. Council allocated $50,000 in the 2023/24 budget to address the failing septic system, which had rendered the amenities unusable. The comprehensive renewal included installing a new trench and evaporation/absorption beds, benefiting the site, which is currently leased by the Cawarral Cricket Club.

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, expressed enthusiasm about these developments.

"The integration of our Parks and Facilities teams aligns perfectly with our recently adopted Open Spaces Framework. This framework outlines our commitment to preserving our natural assets and prioritising coastal ecosystem protection. These changes will ensure that our open spaces, from natural landscapes to recreational areas, are managed efficiently and sustainably,” Cr Eastwood said.

"Council remains dedicated to continuously maintaining and improving our open spaces and facilities, ensuring these areas remain beautiful and valuable public spaces for residents and visitors. The consolidation of the Parks and Facilities teams and the successful completion of projects like those at Emu Park and Cawarral are just the beginning of our ongoing efforts to make Livingstone a safe and enjoyable place for all."
