Learn how to lead a more sustainable life at Council’s Urban Agriculture and Sustainability Expo

Livingstone Shire Council is excited to announce the upcoming Urban Agriculture and Sustainability Expo, set to take place on November 12th at Tanby Garden Centre. This event promises to be a celebration of sustainable living, fostering a deep connection with our environment and protecting the biodiversity of the Shire that we all cherish.
 
Boasting participation from local businesses and a keynote speech from special guest speaker Morag Gamble, this gathering of like-minded individuals and groups who are passionate about sustainability and biodiversity is not to be missed.
 
Livingstone Shire Council Mayor Andy Ireland said the Urban Agriculture and Sustainability Expo is designed to celebrate and promote sustainable living practices and the responsible use of resources.
 
“Attendees will be well-placed to learn many tangible skills and expand their knowledge on urban agriculture and sustainability,” Mayor Ireland said.
 
“We are also pleased to welcome Morag Gamble as our Special Guest Speaker. She is a passionate advocate for sustainable living and permaculture, and her commitment to permaculture principles and sustainable living is truly inspiring.”
 
Portfolio Holder of Water, Waste Management and the Environment Councillor Andrea Friend said the Urban Agriculture and Sustainability Expo promises a day filled with activities and information for the entire family.
 
“Attendees will also be able to watch an exclusive screening of Rachel’s Farm at Beaches Restaurant from 2:30pm, which chronicles Rachel Ward’s transformation from an actress to a regenerative farmer as she confronts environmental despair and finds hope in sustainable agriculture.”
 
Topics on the day include:
• Composting, worm farming, and soil health.
• Self-sufficient and healthy edible backyards and micro gardens.
• Local biodiversity, including bees, wildlife, birds, and pollinators.
• Companion planting and beneficial insects.
• Native plant giveaways.
• Weed identification.
• Urban aquaponics and animal keeping.
• Permaculture & Biodynamic principles.
• Natural sequence gardens.
• Microbiome and preserving.
• Promoting sustainability and efficient use of resources to reduce waste.
• Sustainably diverting waste from landfills
 
Attendees will be able to learn from local community groups and speakers such as  UpCycle CQ Inc, Melissa Luxmoore Naturopath, Ken Mason, Maia Well Being, Capricorn Coast Landcare Group Incorporated, Emu Park Community Bushcare, Australian Native Bee Association Rockhampton Branch, CQ EV Owners and Friends, Fitzroy Basin Association, High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm Environmental Advocacy in Central Queensland, Gardening Naturally CQ, Wildlife Preservation Society Qld Capricorn Branch, Biodynamics Capricornia, Capricorn Conservation Council, Bat Care Capricornia and the Natural Resource Management team from Livingstone Shire Council.
 
We invite all members of our community, as well as visitors, to join us in this celebration of sustainable living and the protection of our environment. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn, connect, and be inspired by Morag Gamble and Rachel Ward, and many other local experts in the field.
