Nominate a community hero in Livingstone for the 2024 Australia Day Awards!
Do you know someone who deserves recognition for their hard work, dedication, and contribution to our vibrant and diverse Shire?
It's that time of the year again when we celebrate the outstanding individuals who have made a significant impact in the community as part of the 2024 Australia Day Awards.
Livingstone Shire Council is encouraging the community to nominate the unsung heroes, community volunteers, inspirational sportspeople, and local legends of all ages from across the region.
Nominations are now officially open and are being accepted across five categories; Community Group, Rural and Agriculture, Business and Innovation, Arts and Culture, Sports and Recreation, Young Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year.
Australia Day Awards Committee Chair, Councillor Clint Swadling, said there had been a slight change in the categories this year, to help simplify the nomination process.
“Now is your chance to thank those individuals, organisations or groups who play an important role in the social fabric of Livingstone Shire, and who you admire for doing great things in our community,” Cr Swadling said.
“These residents demonstrate what it means to be truly Australian – working hard, giving back, and showing pride in support of their community, and this is your opportunity to shine a spotlight on them.
Australia Day Awards Committee member, Councillor Andrea Friend, asked residents to reflect on who has inspired them in the past year with their contributions in making the Shire a better place to work, live or play.
“Whether it be a workmate, neighbour, friend, family member or community group, if someone springs to mind, I encourage you to share their story and let them know they are appreciated by nominating them for an award,” Cr Friend said.
“All you need to do is visit Council’s website and fill out a short nomination form to ensure that your local hero is recognised for the work they do.
“Being nominated for an Australia Day Award is a great honour and I look forward to meeting the 2024 nominees and award recipients.
“Let’s acknowledge and celebrate the people who work selflessly to make our region a better place.”
Nominations close on Sunday 10 December 2023.
