Homes for Queenslanders: 26 modular homes for CQ via Investment Fund
Back
The Miles Government will deliver 26 factory-built homes through its Housing Investment Fund aimed predominantly for single-parent families in Central Queensland.
The 20 social and six affordable two-bedroom homes will be constructed in a factory and trucked to be installed on the site.
The land for the project was donated to Anglicare Central Queensland by the Livingstone Shire Council, another example of different levels of government and the community sector working together.
Construction is forecast to start on the homes in late 2024, pending planning approvals.
It comes as the Government recently launched its Homes for Queenslanders plan, which includes bolstering its social housing Big Build to deliver 53,500 more social homes by 2046.
Quotes attributable to Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga:
“I’ve fought hard for more homes here in our community – especially for families – and I’m excited to see this project announced.
“These homes will be located within walking distance of a school and local shopping precinct, and will feature private outdoor areas and shared community spaces for children to play and families to come together.
“It adds to places like new social homes we opened recently in Yeppoon.”
Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
“We know that to build more homes faster, we need to do things differently – whether that’s building homes in factories, partnering with industry through our Housing Investment Fund, or in this case both.
“These homes supported through the Housing Investment Fund proves that we’re serious and delivering Homes for Queenslanders.
“Through the latest round of our Housing Investment Fund, we’ve seen projects proposed across Queensland from the Torres Strait to the Outback and south-east, with 60 percent located outside of the Brisbane region.
“These projects are on top of the hundreds of homes under construction and families in homes right now made possible by the support of the Housing Investment Fund.”
Quotes attributable to Anglicare Central Queensland CEO Carol Godwin:
“AnglicareCQ is proud to be partnering with the State Government - Department of Housing and Livingstone Shire Council to develop this essential housing solution on the Capricorn Coast,” she said.
“Funding secured through the Queensland Housing Investment Fund has been central to enabling this project.
“Today’s announcement is another step towards realising our shared commitment to community by tackling the housing crisis and providing an additional 26 homes for families.”
Quotes attributable to Livingstone Shire Council Mayor Adam Belot who said Livingstone is one of the fastest growing local government areas in Queensland and Council is extremely humbled to step up and partner with higher levels of government to make a real difference in helping people into a home.
“In April 2023, Livingstone Shire Council agreed to partner with Anglicare CQ to explore community housing options on underutilised Council owned land in Yeppoon and Emu Park, subject to the provision of funding through the State and development approval,” Mayor Belot said.
“As we all know, people are doing it tough through rising cost of living pressures and restricted housing supply.
“The proposed housing project at Emu Park will be subject to development approval and public notification.”
