Embrace the Spirit of Giving Back: Livingstone Shire Council Celebrates National Volunteer Week 2024

Livingstone Shire Council is proud to participate in National Volunteer Week 2024, a nationwide celebration of the invaluable contributions made by volunteers across Australia.

From 20- 26 May, Council is encouraging the community to join in celebrating this year’s theme 'Something for Everyone,' as it highlights the diverse volunteer opportunities available in our community.

With approximately 100 dedicated individuals engaged across eight programs, Livingstone Shire volunteers form the backbone of our thriving community.

Their unwavering commitment enhances various areas of the Livingstone Shire region, from the growing of native plants, maintenance, and revegetation of local landscapes, to supporting fellow community members through their diverse roles at the Community Centre.

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Andrea Friend, emphasised the profound impact of volunteering.

"Our volunteers epitomise the essence of community pride, often serving as the social fabric of their neighbourhoods,” Cr Friend said.

“Through their selfless efforts, they intertwine their identities and interests with those they assist, fostering a resilient and connected community."

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Lance Warcon, said while there are so many fantastic individuals already generously donating their time and effort, there is always opportunities for residents to get involved across a variety of groups.

“Supporting the Community Centre and the many individuals and groups that attend, propagating native plants, assisting in the running of local events, showcasing local art and culture, controlling weeds, and protecting local biodiversity are just some of the ways you can get involved,” Cr Warcon said.

“Volunteering is a deeply rewarding experience, offering the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, while igniting positive change across Livingstone Shire.”
