In an overwhelmingly positive response to the latest round of Council’s Event Sponsorship Program, an impressive 38 events and activities will share in a combined $112,473 of financial and in-kind support.
The popular annual Council program continues to support a myriad of local events and activities held across Livingstone Shire, recognising the positive impact that social, cultural, and environmental initiatives deliver to communities.
Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Lance Warcon said the response received from community groups and event organisers was fantastic, with the amount of funding requested in Round One totalling over $300,000.
“Council’s event sponsorship team received a wide variety of applications for funding this round, which demonstrates the strong enthusiasm for more sporting and community-focussed events to be held in our wonderful region,” Cr Warcon said.
“It’s a detailed evaluation process, and the panel carefully considers each application and its social and economic benefits for the wider community.
“There is a wealth of evidence-based research that demonstrates how art and culture can create a strong sense of place, belonging and self-awareness.
“Council is proud to support both major and minor events in our region, that benefit the community, increase tourism, and are unique to our region.”
Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Andrea Friend said each event falls into one of four categories of sponsorship available including Community Hall and Market Fund, Community Event, and Regional Event and Economic Event.
“Council received sponsorship applications for popular community events such as the various Keppel Coast Arts local markets, The Caves Lions Community Christmas Fair in the Square, to larger-scale economic events like Yeppoon Running Festival, Village Festival 2024, and Great Keppel Island Hideaway’s Country on Keppel.
“There are also some wonderful regional sporting events being held throughout the year such as the Yeppoon Tennis Club’s Yeppoon Pickleball Festival, Keppel Bay Sailing Club’s Youth Sail 2024, HSM Group NRL Beach Tackle, Vball in Paradise GKI Beach Games, and the St Brendan’s College Rodeo.
“Our Shire is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated group of individuals, businesses, organisations, and volunteers, who help to create memorable and exciting experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.
“Council remains committed to providing worthwhile support and meaningful assistance through its various grant programs and activities.”
