Council Seeks Community Input on Operating Hours for The Caves Waste Transfer Facility

Back

Livingstone Shire Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on proposed changes to the operating hours of The Caves Waste Transfer Facility.

This consultation follows requests from Northern Corridor residents for extended weekend hours to better accommodate full-time workers.

Councillor Andrea Friend, former portfolio holder of Water and Waste operations put forward the Notice of Motion in January to investigate alternative operating hours and provide a survey for the Glenlee, Glendale, The Caves and Rockyview residents.

“The aim of this initiative is to offer more convenient times for household waste disposal, thereby enhancing community satisfaction and promoting environmental stewardship,” Cr Friend said.

Infrastructure Committee Co-chair Councillor Glenda Mather, highlighted the importance of the consultation.

“Council recognises that many of our residents have busy schedules, making it challenging to manage household waste,” Cr Mather said.

“We can always extend hours or days to accommodate almost everyone, but extended hours, especially on a weekend, incur penalty rates, and Council is very conscious about providing the service at the best price, and keeping the rates down. Council will always do its best to accommodate its people, where possible.

“By potentially extending the operating hours of The Caves Waste Transfer Facility, we hope to offer greater flexibility and convenience, supporting our community’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment.”

Council is considering four alternative options for the facility’s operating hours:

Proposal 1: Monday: 2.30pm – 5pm, Friday: 2.30pm – 5pm, Saturday: 12pm – 3pm, and Sunday: 10am – 3pm

Proposal 2: Wednesday: 2.30pm – 5pm, Saturday: 12pm – 3pm, Sunday: 10am – 3pm
Proposal 3: Monday to Sunday: 2.30pm – 5pm (maintain existing hours)

Proposal 4: Wednesday 9am – 3pm, Saturday 9am – 3pm, Sunday 9am – 3pm

Infrastructure Committee Co-chair Councillor Rhodes Watson, said Council is keen to hear from residents about which option best suits their needs.

"This feedback is crucial for us to make informed decisions that benefit the entire Northern Corridor community,” Cr Watson said.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey, which is available online at https://getinvolved.livingstone.qld.gov.au/caves-waste-transfer-facility-survey

Paper copies can be found at The Caves Waste Transfer Facility, The Caves Country Pub, and The Caves Country Store.

The engagement period is now open until 5pm Friday 5 July. Council will review all feedback before making a final decision on the operating hours.
