Livingstone Shire Council welcomes you to its first Community Nursery Stall!

Back

Residents of Livingstone are invited to visit the inaugural Community Nursery Stall on Saturday, to be held in the carpark of the Yeppoon Reuse Market at Yeppoon Landfill!

This is a fantastic opportunity to support local flora and fauna by purchasing a wide variety of native plant species that are endemic to the Livingstone Shire region.

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair Councillor Lance Warcon said native plants play an important role in maintaining the health of our local ecosystems and environment.

“By adding these plants to your garden, you are not only enhancing the beauty of your surroundings but also providing essential food and shelter for many native animals,” Cr Warcon said.

“The chosen location for the stall ensures ease of access for all residents, as weekends are typically quite busy entering and exiting the landfill itself, where the Nursery is located.

“Council is excited to launch this initiative on Saturday, 10 August, with the stall open from 9am until midday.

“In addition to the variety of native plants for sale, we are hopeful to have a coffee van on site during operating hours for future stalls, adding to the community atmosphere and making your visit even more enjoyable.”

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair Councillor Andrea Friend said if this initiative proves successful, Council has plans to make it a weekly event, providing a regular opportunity for residents to purchase local native plants.

“The Community Nursery continues to offer seedlings to not-for-profit community groups and organisations by arrangement, ensuring that efforts to promote native plants reach all corners of the community,” Cr Friend said.

“The nursery relies on the hard work and effort of our volunteers who help out with various nursery tasks each Wednesday and Friday. They contribute approximately 3000 hours of work annually.

“Come along, bring your friends and family, and be part of this exciting new venture that celebrates and supports our unique local environment.”
