Livingstone Shire invites residents to have a say on Local Laws

Livingstone Shire Council is inviting residents to have their say on proposed changes to its Local Laws, which govern a wide range of community activities across the region.

From dog off-leash areas to driving on beaches, public parking, and updates to temporary accommodation regulations, Council officers have undertaken a complete review of the current Local Laws and are proposing several amendments.

The proposed amendments will include revision of existing Local Laws, removal of one Local Law and the introduction of two new Local Laws relating to vegetation management and accommodation facilities.

Mayor Adam Belot said community feedback was a key component of the Local Laws review process to ensure regulations kept pace with the community’s expectations.

“The Queensland Government through a state interest check process have reviewed and provided comment on the proposed local laws and they are now ready for public review and feedback,” Mayor Belot said.

“This is the first full review of the Local Laws since Livingstone Shire de-amalgamated from Rockhampton Regional Council in 2013.

“The review has focussed on restructuring the laws to make them simpler and easier to understand, reflecting any changes to legislation and feedback received from the community.

“Throughout the review process, our intention has been to deliver a set of contemporary and relevant laws that reflect the needs of our diverse community, with the aim of maintaining the amazing lifestyle we have here in the Livingstone Shire.

“Residents will also have the opportunity to share their views on driving on local beaches, which has remained a contentious issue across the Livingstone Shire community over the past 12 months.”

The community can review the proposed changes to the Local Laws by visiting the Get Involved portal of Council’s website or in person at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Yeppoon or Emu Park.
