MEAT Capricorn Project

Are you a small-scale producer in Central Queensland wanting access to a more local abattoir? Livingstone Shire Council is working with Regionality Pty Ltd and supported by, Advance Rockhampton and Central Queensland University to gauge the viability of a small-scale, multi-species abattoir in the region.

The MEAT Capricorn Project is aiming to help:

  • Local farmers process, sell to locals, retail and wholesale customers, and distribute their produce
  • Food service providers in Central Queensland to access locally sourced meat products.

The study will cover a geographic catchment in central Queensland that includes Livingstone Shire Council,
Rockhampton Regional Council, Isaac Regional Council, Central Highlands Regional Council, Banana Shire
Council and Gladstone Regional Council areas. It is particularly interested in the potential for local
processing of cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and deer. It is a direct result of feedback received from the ‘Meating the Market’ forum held in May 2023.

Get involved: Express your interest here.  If you have contributed your feedback previously, we would love to hear from you again.

This project received funding from the Australian Government and is proudly supported by Livingstone Shire Council, Rockhampton Regional Council through Advance Rockhampton, and Central Queensland University. This project is being delivered by Regionality Pty Ltd.
