Council is committed to employing apprentices and trainees across various disciplines. Whether you are finishing school, re-entering the workforce or looking for a career change, undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship is a great way to get experience while you get paid! Many Council employees have undertaken an apprenticeship or traineeship with Council and have successfully obtained ongoing employment with Council.

Apprentice - Diesel Fitter Certificate III Engineering – Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic Do you want to learn and develop mechanical skills? During this apprenticeship, you will learn the many aspects of mechanical maintenance for Council plant and equipment.
Apprentice - Mechanical Fitter Certificate III Engineering – Mechanical Trade If you enjoy working with/diagnosing/repairing mechanical type equipment (pumps etc) within Council’s water and sewerage systems, then this apprenticeship would suit you.
Apprentice - Plumber Certificate III Plumbing Does the opportunity to become a licenced Plumber appeal to you? This apprenticeship will have you learning and developing your skills in repairing, maintaining and construction Council’s plumbing, water and sewerage infrastructure.
Trainee – Administration Officer Certificate III Business This traineeship will provide you with fundamental administration skills in an office environment and you will have great exposure to the corporate world.
Trainee – Civil Construction Labourer Certificate II Civil Construction As a Civil Construction Trainee you will learn a variety of skills and undertaken various activities to set you up for a rewarding career as Labourer in the Civil Construction industry.
Trainee – Treatment Plant Operator Certificate III Water Industry Operations This traineeship will provide you with exposure to water treatment, sewar treatment and water maintenance. You will learn and develop a range of skills required to operate in such fields including planned and reactive activities of the plants, pump stations and reservoirs. Great opportunity if you like working outdoors and want a career in the water industry!
Trainee – Information Technology Support Officer Certificate III Information Technology Do you enjoy working with computers and IT systems! This role will see you developing your skills in the use of computers and software , understanding IT systems and assisting Council employees with their IT queries.
Trainee – Horticulture Certificate II Horticulture Love the great outdoors, then perhaps a career in horticulture is for you! You will learn many aspects of gardening, plant identification and contribute to maintaining and beautifying the many parks and gardens at Livingstone Shire Council!
Trainee – Warehouse Officer Certificate III Supply Chain Operations Working in Council’s Warehouse, you will learn how to receive, handle and store products in a warehouse along with methods used to dispatch these items from the warehouse.
