Pinefest brings out the best of Livingstone Shire’s community spirit!

While this year’s iconic Yeppoon Lions Tropical Pinefest event may look a little different as a result of COVID-19, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any less fun or fanfare on the Capricorn Coast this weekend.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Adam Belot said the committee was innovative in coming up with new ways to hold the traditional parade and activities and Council is extremely proud to support the long-time running event.

“Council has signed a three-year funding agreement with Pinefest that is aimed at generating economic activity in the region, enhancing the profile and appeal of the region, attracting external visitation generating overnight visitor expenditure and providing guidance for the event to become financially and environmentally sustainable,” Cr Belot said.

“Council would like to commend the Yeppoon Lions, Councillor Nigel Hutton and the entire Pinefest committee for their outstanding dedication in bringing this exciting event to fruition for the community to enjoy under the challenges of COVID.”

As part of Council’s support towards promoting the event, four large inflatable Pinefest themed pineapples can be found in several locations along the coast, including Emu Park’s Kerr Park and Yeppoon’s Merv Anderson Park and Beaman Park.

Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events and Culture), Councillor Tanya Lynch said the pop-up pineapples will complement the activation of the Yeppoon Town Centre in the lead-up to the Grand Street Parade on Saturday, 10 October.

“Pinefest is a fantastic celebration of the Livingstone Shire community spirit and also aligns with Council’s Capricorn Coast Region Event Strategy 2025, which aims to position the Capricorn Coast as regional Queensland’s leading event destination for iconic event experiences that reflect the unique coastal village lifestyle and simply stunning locations on the shores of the Southern Great Barrier Reef,” Cr Lynch said.
