Help your child to embrace the joy of reading with First 5 Forever!

Livingstone Shire Library, alongside First 5 Forever and the State Library of Queensland is celebrating the joy of reading for children between the ages of 0-5 years old by offering a special library membership initiative. 

First 5 Forever is coordinated by the State Library of Queensland and is aimed towards 0-5 year old’s and their families. The First 5 Forever programme recognises the importance of literacy and language development in the first five years of a child’s life and provides families with information, resources, and support to encourage them to talk, read, sing, and play. 

Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events and Culture), Councillor Tanya Lynch, said children between the ages of 0-5 years old who join Livingstone Shire Libraries as a member will receive their very own F5F branded Library Card, along with a F5F library bag and two very special bookmarks featuring nursery rhymes.

“Becoming a member of the Livingstone Shire Library provides a vast array of resources to help strengthen the development of young children,” Cr Lynch said. 

“Reading with young children as they grow, especially during the ages of 0-5 years, is highly important as it makes a huge difference in their ongoing development. 

“The importance of reading every day with your children from birth is huge and what better place to start the journey than at your local library. 

“Whilst our library’s children programmes have to be suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are very excited for this promotion to encourage children and their families to stay connected with their Livingstone library.

“With a well-stocked e-Library including books, movies, and music which can be accessed at your convenience, there is also physical products available at the Library for loan.”

Livingstone Shire Library has outlets at Yeppoon, Emu Park, Byfield, Mt Chalmers, and Marlborough.
