Council Adopts 2019-2020 Annual Report

Livingstone Shire Council adopted its 2019-2020 Annual Report at its Ordinary Meeting held on Tuesday 17 November 2020.

As a legislative requirement set out in the Local Government Regulation 2012, the Annual Report highlights Council’s corporate vision and details key initiatives undertaken throughout the 2019-2020 financial year, as well as Council’s financial reporting and position subsequent to audit by the Auditor General of Queensland.

Mayor Andy Ireland is encouraging residents to read the Annual Report.

“The main themes from the 2019-2020 financial year are resilience, consolidation, and collaboration,” Mayor Ireland said. 

“Given the challenges our community has faced, including the impacts of disaster events and the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it is more important than ever to ensure that Council continues to support the Shire’s economic growth and community development wherever possible.

“This strategic approach has seen Council continue to grow its well-maintained asset base and remain well-positioned to deliver the necessary future capital works and facilities our community needs and expects.

“Council has delivered an operating deficit for the first time in five years of $193,000, however when removing the impact of unusual transaction, the underlying result is an operational surplus of $3.3 million.

“In all, a total of more than $23.2 million was invested into community assets.

“It is important to acknowledge the continuing level of support Council has received from State and Federal Governments, who collectively contributed approximately $7.7 million of the funding towards the 2019-20 Capital Works Programme.

“Council continued to reduce long-term debt by $5 million and in accordance with the long term financial plan; no additional loan borrowings were required.
