Make a Date with your Library this February to celebrate Library Lovers’ Month

Community members are being encouraged to ‘Make a date with their library’ to celebrate the valuable role that libraries play in their lives.

Livingstone Shire Council Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events, and Culture), Councillor Tanya Lynch, said this year Library Lovers Day is even more special given the pandemic lockdown.

“Organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association, this day celebrates all the work libraries do in the community and is especially relevant following the challenges of 2020,” Cr Lynch said.

“Over the last year the Home Library Service delivered books directly to people’s doors and the range of ebooks, digital magazines, and other electronic resources have increased.

“For Livingstone Shire Library, 2021 is an opportunity to reach out and encourage those in the community who may not have visited in a while, to return to the library space and reconnect with what they have missed.”

Cr Lynch said to commemorate Library Lovers’ Day, there are a number of events for all ages throughout the month.

“Highlights include the return of the children’s First 5 Forever programming to Tuesday mornings, Online Library help sessions on Friday afternoons, and the launch of local author, Eve Johnston’s book, ‘A Love Letter to My Children’,” she said.

“The ever popular ‘Blind Date with a Book’ promotion will also be running with prizes up for grabs. Library goers can enter the prize draw by borrowing a book without knowing anything about the story.

“It’s a fun way to discover new authors or genres.”

Library Lovers’ Day is a special way to connect with your library, in-person and virtually.
