Livingstone Shire Council is encouraging not-for-profit community groups and sporting clubs to apply for up to $5,000 funding, an increase from $2,000 previously, as part of the latest round of the Livingstone Community Grants Scheme.

Portfolio holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, Councillor Pat Eastwood, said local clubs and community groups contribute to a wealth of different activities and services to the residents of Livingstone Shire.

“The scheme provides a fantastic opportunity to obtain financial support towards projects which help clubs and groups to stay up and running or add new functions to their capabilities,” he said.

“This is particularly important post the Covid-19 blow.”

Some of the groups which benefited last year included the Cawarral Cricket Club for the purchase of tables and chairs, the Victory Tennis Club for the purchase of a defibrillator, and the Emu Park Life Saving Club for the purchase of kitchen and canteen equipment.

“Council is proud to ‘give back’ and support groups and sporting clubs that have such a positive effect on our community,” Cr Eastwood said.

“They have a positive effect on mental health and emotional wellbeing, provide a sense of belonging and social connectedness and offer extra meaning to and purpose to everyday life.”

The current round of funding opens on February 8 and closes on March 9.

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria, be operating within Livingstone Shire Council’s Local Government Area and be providing programmes, outcomes or activities which benefit residents and improve overall community wellbeing.

The grants are administered through the Smarty Grants online platform with an Applicant Information Session to be held on 10 February from 5.30pm to 7pm at the Community Education Room, The Hub, James Street, Yeppoon.

For more information or to RSVP for the information session, please contact the Community Development, Sport and Recreation Team by calling 4913 5000 or emailing LCG@livingstone.qld.gov.au.
