Livingstone’s school holiday programme a huge success!

With over 16 events and activities held throughout the June/July school holidays across Livingstone Shire, Council was thrilled by the overwhelming attendance and interest from local families.
From laser skirmish, mini Olympics, rock wall climbing, movie nights, and markets, Council, along with other community groups hosted a variety of activities for children of all ages to take part in from 26 June to 11 July.
Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, said the majority of the activities were sold out or almost at capacity, proving to be a positive sign that the community is keen to see more of these events take place.
“We’re extremely proud to be able to deliver these activities to our region’s youth over the school holiday period, which offered local families a range of fun and free events to enjoy while connecting with their community,” Cr Eastwood said.
“It’s also part of Council’s strategic event framework to activate the Shire’s localities in peak school holiday periods, assisting local businesses to attract visitors from the wider Central Queensland area.
“Overall, the two-week events calendar was a huge success, with over 80 children attending the Mini Olympics event in Daniel Park and over 130 young people registering for the PCYC’s laser skirmish, high ropes, and rock wall climbing. We hosted two sold out bush survival skills workshops in Glenlee and Byfield, as well as hundreds visiting the Yeppoon foreshore for the Twilight Markets and outdoor movie night, to name a few.
“Council would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out to support these activities and we look forward to hosting similar events in the future.”
Following on from the school holiday success, Council is seeking feedback from local parents and carers about what kind of ideas they might have for other events and activities that Council could plan to run in the future.
“Everyone who completes the survey goes in the draw to win a $50 Keppel Cash Card,” Cr Eastwood added.
