Something for everyone at the Sustainable Livingstone Expo this weekend!

Back
From turtles to electric vehicles and everything in between, there’s sure to be something for everyone at the Sustainable Livingstone Expo this year!

Taking place in Yeppoon’s Town Centre at Beaman Park this Sunday (3 October) from 10am to 3pm, this free event will bring together all sorts of locals working towards a more sustainable future – at work, at home, in the community, and in the environment.

Presentations will cover a diverse range of topics including how we can all live more sustainably in our everyday lives, clothing upcycling, biodynamic farming, passive solar design, limiting food waste, water quality, permaculture, composting, and reducing plastic waste.

There will also be a great range of displays, stalls, and activities throughout the day covering sustainable transport methods (including bicycles and electric vehicles), looking after local flora and fauna, second-hand shopping, and how you can get involved in local conservation, preservation, and restoration initiatives. Rocky Instincts will be there showcasing its work of engaging people with the natural world around them in fun, innovative, and accessible ways.

Councillor Andrea Friend, Portfolio holder of Water, Waste Management and the Environment,  said the Sustainable Livingstone Expo was a great opportunity for anyone interested in living more sustainably to learn more.

“There is so much people can do to be more sustainable in their lives. Using bikes instead of driving, reducing plastic and food waste, making and mending clothes, growing your own food, or getting involved in hands-on environmental work – we can all take steps to create a more sustainable future,” Cr Friend said.

“Council is thrilled to provide this opportunity for people to learn from local experts and find out more about the wide variety of local initiatives they can get involved in. Groups like the Capricorn Conservation Council, Bat Care Capricornia, the Fitzroy Basin Association, Capricornia Catchments, and more will be there to share information and talk to people about the events and volunteering opportunities available locally.”

The event will culminate with the premiere of Council’s biodiversity documentary, which highlights the flora and fauna of our region and calls on local residents to become active custodians and stewards of our natural environment.
