Central Queensland visual art students will showcase their work at the recently opened Fig Tree Galleries in Yeppoon, now officially open!

The exhibition, titled, Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art Central Queensland regional exhibition, recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual art education throughout Queensland State and non-state schools.

The local works will be on display at the venue from today until 24 October, as part of this year’s Yeppoon Lions Pinefest celebrations, in partnership with Livingstone Shire Council.

Since 1990, the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art's In Residence program has helped raise community awareness of the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of visual art education in Queensland secondary schools.

Mayor Andy Ireland said Council is proud to support the exhibition and encourages residents to go along to view the many different mediums the young artists have chosen to use to create their unique pieces.

“The region’s youth are the future leaders of our community, and activities like this are so important in providing opportunities for self-development and to learn new skills which they can apply in their adult lives,” Mayor Ireland said.

“Yeppoon State High School ensembles will be performing throughout the exhibition with performances from the YSHS String Ensemble delighting audiences at the opening. Students will also be performing on Sunday 10th and 17th October.

“It’s fantastic to see the new gallery being utilised so frequently since its opening in August, with local, State and national exhibitions secured for the remainder of 2021 and into 2022. This space supports and fosters the growth of our arts and culture community within Livingstone.

“The Yeppoon Lions Pinefest is also a wonderful supporter of the youth and wider community, and Council would like to sincerely thank them for their sponsorship towards this exciting event.”

Yeppoon State High School and St Brendan’s College students will represent Livingstone in the exhibition.
