Recovering Our Backyard information day supports resident’s bushfire recovery

While this month marks two years since the Cobraball bushfires devastated parts of Livingstone Shire, the recovery journey continues for many impacted residents.

As part of Council’s commitment to supporting property owners in the fire-affected areas, a rural information day, Recovering Our Backyard, will be held on Saturday 13 November at the Old Pump Station, 544 Limestone Creek Road, Adelaide Park.

Mayor Andy Ireland, Local Disaster Management Group Chair, said the event is being held as part of the Resourceful Recovery Workshops held earlier this year.

“This is a free, family friendly day that Council wanted to hold somewhere that was familiar to impacted residents, which will feature plenty of information, workshops, interactive activities, and presenters,” Mayor Andy Ireland said.

“It will also provide guidance to landholders to support their bushfire recovery journey. The event will include bushfire management presentations and displays, weed identification and control methods, practical rural demonstrations, guest speakers, and much more.

“I encourage residents who live in any fire-affected areas or any landowners who may be concerned about the threat of bushfires to attend.

“It’s important that our community feels empowered with the right knowledge about what steps it can take to be prepared when it comes to responding to disasters, which also aids in building resilience amongst residents.”

Attendees could also win a 1,000 litre slip-on firefighting unit for your property valued at over $5,000.
