Are you bushfire prepared? FREE information sessions for residents of Livingstone Shire

Back
The popular free fire management information sessions and fire management planning workshops are returning to Livingstone Shire this month, and registrations are now open.

These fire preparedness workshops provide important information to landholders and the community, aiming to help mitigate the risks associated with bushfires, with a specific focus on building community resilience in the potential threat of bushfires.

The information evenings and fire management planning workshops will be held at Coowonga and Yeppoon.

Mayor Andy Ireland, Local Disaster management Group Chair, said participants will be provided with regionalised guidance on creating individual property fire management plans tailored by property.

“These workshops were well-attended earlier this year, and provide great insight into what property owners and landholders can expect when dealing with the potential threat of bushfires,” Mayor Ireland said.

“These workshops also build on the experiences and lessons from landowners who protected their properties during the 2018 and 2019 fires.

“I strongly encourage anyone who might be interested in gaining valuable knowledge around these important topics to go along. It is vital our community remains as prepared as possible for future disasters.”

Representatives from the Rural Fire Service Queensland, Livingstone Shire Council, Queensland Fire and Biodiversity Consortium, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services and, relevant Government land management agencies will be on hand to share information about their roles and offer advice about planning for the approaching fire season.

Local laws, vegetation management, fire and grazing, fire and timber production, and the conservation of plants and animals will also be discussed.

The fire workshops are being delivered to residents by Livingstone Shire Council, Capricornia Catchments, in partnership with the Queensland Fire and Biodiversity Consortium (QFBC), Fitzroy Basin Association, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

These workshops are focussed on residents living within localities including Cawarral, Mount Chalmers, Coowonga, Tungamull, Nankin, Nerimbera, as well as Bungundara, Woodbury, Maryvale, Greenlake, Lake Mary, Bondoola, Adelaide Park, and Barmaryee.
