Plans for a new child care centre in Yeppoon have been approved by Livingstone Shire Council today.

The 115-space centre would create 22 jobs and is proposed to be built at 9 and 11 Tanby Road.

A 68-space child care centre at 28 Park Street in Yeppoon was also approved by Council in October and an extra 50 places were recently approved to an existing child care centre at Arthur Street, Emu Park.

Mayor Andy Ireland said the developments benefit residents by providing more opportunities to secure child care placements as the population booms.

“We’re experiencing significant growth with many interstate families moving away from cities during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Ireland said.

“Demand for child care is extremely high and these new centres will help ease the burden many parents and carers are facing.

“Some residents have been on waiting lists for years trying to secure a placement.

“It’s great to see developments that will support our growing community and also boost our economy.”
