Livingstone’s Local Disaster Co-ordinator thanked for his service

Livingstone Shire Mayor Andy Ireland has expressed his sincere thanks to Council’s Local Disaster Co-ordinator, David Mazzaferri, for his dedicated service to the local community.

Mr Mazzaferri, left his role at Council last week to accept a new role with the Australian Government’s National Disaster and Resilience Agency.

Well known throughout the community as ‘Disaster Dave’, Mr Mazzaferri came on board with Council in 2016 after being assigned as the Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia Recovery Co-ordinator, which saw him fall in love with the Capricorn Coast.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Mayor Andy Ireland, said Mr Mazzaferri would be sorely missed.  

“Dave has made a very significant contribution and impact as Livingstone Shire’s Local Disaster Co-ordinator over the past six years,” Mayor Ireland said.

“He has provided outstanding leadership and vision through very difficult and challenging times, including TC Marcia, TC Debbie flooding, the bushfires of 2018 and 2019 and COVID-19.

“I believe I can speak on behalf of the LDMG, fellow Councillors and staff of Livingstone Shire Council in saying that Dave’s contribution has been invaluable and we wish him the very best for the future.”

David Mazzaferri said it had been an honour to represent and serve the Livingstone Shire community.

“I have been very privileged to be the Local Disaster Co-ordinator for the Livingstone Shire,” he said.

“Over the past six years, our community has been through some significant events, during which I have witnessed real community spirit, resilience and a true dedication to our community from Council, agencies and volunteers.

“Highlights for me as Local Disaster Co-ordinator include engaging with the community, particularly the school tours of The Hub, the annual Get Ready Day event and interacting with our dedicated volunteers.

“It is with mixed emotions that I am moving on to an opportunity to focus on my passion of building resilience and recovery at a national level, whilst still living in this great community. I am very proud of this community that I call home.”
