Council adopts Federal Government election priority projects
Livingstone Shire Councillors have today endorsed an advocacy plan for their top four Federal Government election priority projects.
The next election must be held before 21 May 2022.
At the general meeting today, Councillors endorsed an advocacy document promoting the Causeway Lake Restoration Project, Yeppoon Aquatic Centre, Yeppoon Town Centre Rejuvenation, and Surf Lakes Wave Pool Resort as the Shire’s “game-changing” projects.
Mayor Andy Ireland said Council identified these projects as the most critical for our community that need Federal Government funding support.
“These four projects are considered game-changers for our community and we must ensure there is effective lobbying to the Federal Government to help make these projects a reality,” Mayor Ireland said.
“Council is seeking $1 million to complete a series of due diligence and design studies in support of restoring Causeway Lake to its former glory as a major recreation asset.
“We are also seeking confirmation of the Federal Government’s ‘in principle’ commitment of $13 million for the design and construction of the Yeppoon Aquatic Centre.
“The Yeppoon Town Centre is where the majority of commercial, retail, dining, entertainment, and urban activities occur.
“Council is lobbying for $14 million for road, parking, and streetscape upgrades.
“Although it’s a private project, the Surf Lakes world first wave pool resort will make the Capricorn Coast and Livingstone Shire the next surfing mecca and bring significant benefits to the local economy and tourism.
“Therefore Council will support the company’s request for $5.88 million towards enabling access infrastructure.
“It’s vital the Federal Government provides support for these projects, however, Council will continue lobbying if they are left unfunded after the election.”
