Livingstone parks more inclusive with wheelchair accessible barbeques

A new wheelchair accessible barbecue has been installed at a popular park in Lammermoor, as part of Livingstone Shire Council’s ongoing commitment to inclusive communities.

The barbecue was installed at Lioness Park, which is often used by community groups such as ‘Cycling Without Age’.

Council has previously installed them at Kerr Park in Emu Park, Appleton Park in Yeppoon, Beryl Hick Park in Keppel Sands, and Bicentennial Lions Park at The Caves.

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, said it was great to see Council actively working to improve inclusiveness across the Shire.

“We love our outdoor lifestyle in Livingstone and it’s so important that Council provides facilities for everyone to be able to enjoy,” Cr Eastwood said.

“The Lammermoor shared pathway is a very popular place for recreation, so Lioness Park is an ideal location for the latest wheelchair accessible barbeque.

“These facilities will provide greater accessibility to members of the community and also encourage greater use of these spaces.

“In recent years, amenities have also been upgraded across the Shire for people with disabilities, including at Causeway Lake, Daniel Park in Cooee Bay, and Schofield Park in Keppel Sands.”
