New tourism promotion to make visitors feel like they’ve never left

Just add water to a little bottle of Great Keppel Island sand and you’ll want to relive the best holiday you’ve had!

That’s the message from a trial tourism promotion, launched to encourage visitors to return to holiday on the Capricorn Coast.

Hundreds of small glass bottles filled with white sand from Great Keppel Island will be given to coastal motels and caravan parks to randomly gift to tourists this Easter holiday season.

Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community, said he came up with the idea to help boost tourism in the region.

“A lot of money is spent on advertising to attract tourists to the region, but wouldn’t it be great if they came back a second time,” Cr Watson said.

“At this stage I’ve got 200 bottles filled with sand from my family’s private property on Great Keppel Island.

“This is a small trial but who knows, I could be bottling thousands in the future if the initiative gains traction.

“All tourists have to do is fill their bath with warm water, add the sand and remember the best holiday they’ve ever had.

“The Capricorn Coast and Livingstone Shire have so much to offer tourists and I hope this small gesture will encourage visitors to come back for more memories.”
