Ten local not-for-profit groups were formally awarded a share in $45,000 of community grants at a presentation held last night at The Hub in Beaman Park.

The Livingstone Community Grants Scheme provides an opportunity for eligible not-for-profit community groups and sporting clubs to deliver innovative projects that benefit the Livingstone Shire community.

Mayor Andy Ireland said Council was proud to provide continued funding support towards worthy projects that assist in improving the success of many of the wonderful clubs and groups across our region.

“Thanks to a partnership between Livingstone Shire Council, The Real Group, and M. Cranny Investments, local groups had the opportunity to apply for up to $5,000 funding for a wide range of initiatives,” Mayor Ireland said.

“I’d like to congratulate each of the successful groups and applaud their members for the passion and dedication in continuing to work towards improving the liveability and inclusiveness of the Livingstone Shire community.”

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Communities (Tourism, Arts Culture), said it was exciting to see the variety of activities and projects our local groups and sporting clubs are undertaking.

“Accessible beach matting, electrical upgrades, a water tank, shade shelter, toilet upgrades, and more, are just some of the projects that will share in this latest round of Community Grants,” Cr Eastwood said.

“The past year and a half has had an impact on all sectors of industry and the community and the importance local not-for-profit groups have in keeping the community connected in times of adversity cannot be underestimated.

“The Livingstone Community Grants Scheme aligns with Council’s ongoing commitment to strengthen diversity through inclusive, equitable, and accessible services, as part of the Livingstone Community Plan: Towards 2050.

“Council offers two rounds of community grants each financial year and I encourage anyone looking to enhance community wellbeing and liveability to apply for the next round opening in August 2022.”
