Capricorn Coast street art comes to life in new art trail featuring augmented reality
Immerse yourself in the Capricorn Coast’s many amazing street art murals and watch them come to life, as part of an exciting new art trail featuring augmented reality.
Keep a lookout for QR codes near the existing murals from Yeppoon to Keppel Sands and use your smartphone to transform some of them into a virtual reality dreamscape.
You’ll be able to see digital images appear on your phone as if they’re part of the physical world and row boats with surf lifesavers or jump into the water for a quick snorkelling trip!
Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community, said the innovative Capricorn Coast Art Trail was made possible through funding from the Australian Government’s Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grant Program.
“This new street art trail is a huge asset to our shire and will delight both visitors and residents,” Cr Watson said.
“We have many wonderful murals to showcase and this project is a great way of connecting them and cementing the region as a vibrant destination for arts and culture.
“More than 70 artworks across 28 locations are included in the trail, produced by local company Appleton Studios, and while not all of them are set up for augmented reality, the art trail will still allow participants to explore and enjoy every piece of artwork on the Capricorn Coast.
“To use the art trail, you just have to scan the QR code located at the artwork to load the augmented reality experience.
“Council is excited to embrace augmented reality and see the reactions from the public when they get to enjoy it.
“We’re encouraging you to share your experience by tagging Council on social media to help spread the word, using the hashtags #discovercapricorncoast and #visitcapricorn.”
Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, said she was excited to see the project launch which will further boost the Capricorn Coast’s tourism credentials to Australian travellers.
“I lobbied very hard and was ultimately successful at securing $30,000 for Livingstone Shire Council from the Australian Government’s Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grant Program for this project,” Ms Landry said.
“These grants went towards revitalising a range of events that had otherwise been postponed or cancelled, as well as the development of new experiences that will encourage visitors such as Livingstone Shire Council’s innovative art trail.
“I want to thank Mayor Andy Ireland and Livingstone Shire Council for continuing to promote the region to the rest of Australia.”
