‘Same But Different’ Exhibition at Fig Tree Gallery Opens Today
A new exhibition at Fig Tree Galleries this month will showcase a collaboration between three artists, reflecting on their experience throughout the pandemic as being the ‘Same but Different’.
‘Same but Different – Poetry of the Everyday’ features work from UK artist Cas Holmes and local artists Peta and Bruce Lloyd.
The exhibition opens today to the public, with its grand opening tomorrow night. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 4 pm, the last day will be Sunday 29 May 2022.
Artist Peta Lloyd said they found inspiration from familiar everyday items and experiences and recorded their journey.
“This collaboration began at the beginning of the pandemic and reflects a strong need to be with each other as artists despite our plans being otherwise curtailed,” Ms Lloyd said.
“The connection we have to each other has not been divided by distance but instead enhanced via ‘postcards’ we sent each other via mail to work on, which are included in the exhibition.
“This exhibition reflects both the individual connections we have to space and place and the commonalities through a number of different mediums.”
Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community, said Council is excited to
host such a unique collaboration of artwork at the Fig Tree Galleries.
‘The ongoing arts and cultural opportunities that have been made possible through the gallery has created a space where all residents can view and appreciate artwork that they might otherwise not have the opportunity to do, living in a smaller community,” Cr Watson said.
“The entire community and visitors to the shire are encouraged and welcome to attend the exhibition throughout May.”
‘Same but Different’ will be on display until 29 May.
