National Simultaneous Storytime Celebrated This Morning at Yeppoon Library

The children of Livingstone were once again part of a nationwide reading effort during the 2022 National Simultaneous Storytime this morning at Yeppoon Library.

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association and aims to get more young people reading and enjoying books.

Each year a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously throughout Australia.

In the Livingstone Shire, the free Simultaneous Storytime session was held at 10am and the special guest reader was Councillor Rhodes Watson.

Councillor Watson said that he felt incredibly privileged to be asked to read this year’s book.

“This year’s book is Family Tree, written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh,” said Cr Watson.

“Family Tree celebrates family, community, and the seasons. The story follows the growth and lifecycle of a tree and features beautiful illustrations with an Australiana theme.

“The goal of the Australian Library and Information Association is to have one million kids involved and reading nationwide at the one time.”

“The National Simultaneous Storytime initiative is now in its 22nd successful year and is a colourful, vibrant event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.”

“I encourage all parents, grandparents, carers, and guardians to bring their children along to the Livingstone Libraries and spread the joy of reading amongst the youth.”
