Works inspired by surfing, fishing, boating and time spent on the ocean will feature in a new art exhibition to open this week at Fig Tree Galleries, Yeppoon.

Created by local artist and former graphics teacher Mark Asher, Capricorn Delights will showcase more than 35 fine art installations, including paintings and timber pieces. The exhibition will run from Saturday 4 June to Sunday 26 June 2022, with an opening celebration taking place tomorrow from 5.30pm.

Mark said his life has been one connected to the sea, particularly the Capricorn Coast.

“The master seascape and water painters have always intrigued me in how water characteristics can be captured in two-dimensional paint,” Mr Asher said.

“Inspired by this challenge, my painting journey has centred on water and movement in all its forms, including birds in flight.

“I’m excited to offer the community an exclusive preview of my work, focussing on the natural world, seeking places and subjects of beauty and intrigue.”

Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community, said showcasing local artists of this calibre at Fig Tree Galleries was a privilege.

“Council is thrilled to be hosting an exhibition that offers a great deal in terms of the Capricorn Coast’s delights, with several paintings depicting local iconic locations,” Cr Watson said.

“We have a wealth of talent here in Livingstone Shire and showcasing them is a way of giving back to, as well as strengthening, our local arts scene.

“I am sure the community will find great enjoyment in this must-see exhibition.”

‘Capricorn Delights’ will be on display until 26 June. Entry is free. Fig Tree Galleries is located at 31-35 Normanby Street, Yeppoon.
