Community celebrates social connectiveness

Hundreds have turned out on the weekend to enjoy a free community fun day hosted by Livingstone Shire Council to help build on and increase social connectiveness.

Livingstone Shire Council organised the ‘Recovering Our Backyard Community Day’ at Woodbury, thanks to funding from the Bushfire Recovery Initiative which is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments.

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder for Healthy and Inclusive Community, said events like this are important for the local community.

“This fun and free event was the perfect opportunity for residents to build on and increase their social connectiveness, including with those that may be new to the area and to learn more about their local community groups and Rural Fire Brigades,” Cr Eastwood said.

“Research has shown that communities that work together, recover quicker and are stronger than pre-disaster events, like bushfires.

“Livingstone is no stranger to disasters and it’s wonderful to see so many people come together to get to know one another and connect.

“Families enjoyed an array of activities from face painting, entertainment, games, pickleball and tennis as well as a free BBQ lunch and even a surprise guest appearance by musician Jeremy Marou who joined Brad Butcher to entertain.

“Council would like to thank the Australian and Queensland Governments for their funding support for this important community initiative.”
