A cleaner, greener Livingstone with waste relief

Registered environmental organisations will be able to use the Yeppoon Landfill for free, thanks to moves by Livingstone Shire Council to fund waste disposal costs.

Councillor Nigel Hutton put forward a Notice of Motion at the general Council meeting today to request an additional budget of $10, 000 from Council’s general revenue, which will be shared by Landcare and equivalent organisations.

“This allowance will fund these environmental groups to dispose of waste collected from public spaces at the Yeppoon Landfill,” Cr Hutton said.

“On any given week, volunteers are serving across Livingstone, helping create the lifestyle treasured by all of us.

“The members of Capricorn Coast Landcare work alongside Council and the community in managing and rehabilitating sites.

“This work includes the collection of waste which has a negative impact on our environment.

“Our community is enhanced through the efforts of Landcare, and the group shouldn’t be out of pocket for cleaning up for the betterment of our community.”

All Councillors voted in favour of the motion.

Council will undertake a review as part of the 2023-24 budget development process to confirm costs of the waste allowance.
