Time to dig in! National Tree Day is almost here!

Back

Livingstone Shire Council is once again teaming up with Ian Weigh Toyota and Planet Ark for National Tree Day 2022 and is encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty and have fun while making a big impact at this year’s planting day.

Portfolio holder of Water, Waste Management and the Environment, Councillor Andrea Friend said National Tree Day is a great opportunity for residents of all ages to connect with both nature and the community, do something for your local environment and experience the benefits of spending time outdoors.

“Over 26 million trees have been planted by Australian volunteers since 1996 as part of the program and we are excited to be supporting the goal of getting another million in the ground this year,” Cr Friend said.

“This year’s project will be held at a reserve bordering Mulambin Road, Rosslyn this Sunday 31 July 2022 from 9.00 am to 11.30 am, with a sausage sizzle to follow.

“Planting more native trees that are endemic to this site will enhance the buffer zone of the nearby wetlands and will provide extra homes for our local wildlife for many years to come.

“On behalf of Council, we’d like to thank major sponsor Ian Weigh Toyota for making our largest annual tree-planting possible.

“National Tree Day is a free event for the whole family so grab your hats, water bottles and sunscreen and bring the kids down to enjoy a fun day out giving back to our community.”
