Free microchipping im-paw-sible to ignore!

Back

Livingstone Shire Council is once again unleashing a free microchipping program this August to give dogs and cats a ticket home to their family.

The initiative is a great opportunity for pet owners to save money on something that is compulsory by law.

All dogs from 12 weeks of age are required to be microchipped and Council is offering a limited number of pet owners the chance to register their pet for free microchipping.

Portfolio Holder of Waste, Water Management and the Environment, Councillor Andrea Friend, said Council’s priority is to reunite owners with their four-legged family members and a microchip is a lost pets’ best chance of finding its way home.

“There are also substantial animal registration discounts for owners of animals that are microchipped and desexed,” Cr Friend said.

“We are proud and excited to work with local vet Quality Veterinary Care who will deliver this free and crucial service.

“Microchipping is a quick, safe and simple procedure involving a vet implanting a chip the size of a rice grain under the skin of the animal.

“Each chip has a unique number which when scanned links to a database that includes important information such as the owner’s contact details.

“Council supports responsible pet ownership, so we’re encouraging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.”

For pets to be eligible for free microchipping they must be registered in Livingstone Shire and over the age of eight weeks with free microchipping limited to two animals per household.

If your pet isn’t registered with Council yet, simply register them via our Online Services Centre to be eligible for this fantastic free microchipping event.
