Value of trees explored in new gallery exhibition

Opening on Friday 2 September, ‘The Wisdom of Trees’ will be the latest exhibition to be shown at the Fig Tree Galleries.

Bloss Hickson, a grazier from Rolleston and the organiser of the exhibition, said that the idea came about as she wanted to educate individuals about the importance of trees to our environment and how they are essential to the world’s survival.

“I’m really concerned about the over-clearing that is currently occurring in rural Queensland which has had a detrimental affect on the biodiversity of our landscapes,” said Ms Hickson.

“I wanted to do something that gave people an awareness of what the trees were doing in the landscape and how valuable they were. Art is such a lovely medium to get that message across.”

‘The Tree Tribe’ was created five years ago by Ms Hickson and has approximately 60 members from all across Queensland, who share a passion for trees. They want to educate landholders about the importance of developing their properties wisely and keeping trees through the landscape.

The group decided that they would all create art forms that reveal the hidden gems of trees, what they contribute to our world and how necessary they are for our survival.

‘The Wisdom of Trees’ exhibition is made up of works from Bloss Hickson, Veronika Zeil, Nicola Apps, Gail Kircher, Neil Roberts, Temika Belot, Roslyn Serico, Maxine Wild, Chelsea Bews, Jo Wearing, Lucinda Hickson, Margie Makim, Celie Parker and Diane Valerie.

These works of art will be on display from Friday 2 September to Thursday 15 September.
