The days of disco are set to return for the 2022 Pinefest!

With last year's restrictions to getting your groove on at gatherings lifted, the Yeppoon Lions Tropical Pinefest is bringing the boogie, peace and love to this year's annual celebrations!

Pinefest’s committed team of volunteers is working to the max to make this year’s event super funky and totally rad, kicking off on Saturday 1 October and wrapping up on Saturday 8 October.

Event organisers, sponsors and community members met at the Yeppoon Foreshore Amphitheatre today to officially launch the event and share some of the exciting details about this year’s theme, which if you haven’t already guessed is ‘Back to the ‘70s’.

Mayor Andy Ireland said Pinefest is an iconic event on Livingstone’s annual event calendar, bringing people together and celebrating the many qualities the region is known for.

“Every year we see the community spirit come alive during Pinefest and Council is extremely proud to be supporting the event as a platinum sponsor again this year,” Mayor Ireland said.

“From the volunteers to the community groups and businesses who take part in the festivities, this event provides a wonderful opportunity to come together in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank all of the hardworking committee members, sponsors, and volunteers for the stellar effort they make in putting this event together year after year.”

Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Events, and Culture), said this year’s theme is sure to bring good vibes and I encourage the community to dig out their vintage threads and join in the fun.

“This entire event is driven by the community, with sponsorship and in-kind support provided by a number of local businesses, helping to facilitate a wonderful program with so much to choose from,” Cr Watson said.

“Throughout October, there’ll be a business and community competition with displays in store promoting Yeppoon pineapples, a Creative Generation Excellence in Visual Arts Regional Exhibition hosted at Fig Tree Galleries, a Drive-in Picture Show, a 70’s Cocktail Party and The Progressive Dinner.

“Keep an eye on local restaurant and café menus for the ‘Pine Chef’ creations made with locally grown pineapples during the festival.

“The week of flower power winds up on 8 October at the Yeppoon foreshore, starting with beachfront markets and entertainment, followed by The Capricornian Running of the Bulls at 12.15pm and The Yeppoon Real Estate Grande Street Parade in James Street from 3pm to 4pm.

“The day will finish off with a bang when the Keppel Bay Sailing Club Fireworks Extravaganza takes to the sky at 7.30pm at Yeppoon Main Beach.”
