Livingstone Shire Council pays tribute to Her Majesty The Queen
Flags at Yeppoon foreshore and Livingstone Shire Council's Administration Building have been lowered to half-mast as a symbol of respect to mark the passing of Great Britain's longest-serving monarch.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms, including Australia, since her reign began in February 1952.
Her Majesty along with husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited our region on 15 March 1954, becoming the first reigning Australian monarch to set foot on Australian soil.
Mayor Andy Ireland has paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second's passing on behal fof the Shire.
“It is with profound sadness that we hear of the passing of our longest-reigning monarch, and there is no doubt this loss is being felt deeply across Australia,” Mayor Ireland said.
“Irrespective of your political views or whether you are a monarchist or otherwise, there can be no denying the unsurpassable contribution Queen Elizabeth II has made to Australia, the Commonwealth, and indeed the world.
“Queen Elizabeth II was a monarch and a person of true class, a person who cared deeply about people, and a woman of unquestionable integrity who also possessed a deep sense of duty.
“She epitomised what a monarch is and should be, and we may never see the likes of her again.
“Today, we join communities across the Commonwealth in mourning the loss of a remarkable woman who captured our hearts and our affection.
“My deepest sympathy and prayers are with the Royal family at this very sad time, particularly with our new Monarch King Charles III. God Save Our King.
“Queen Elizabeth once said ‘Grief is the price we pay for love’ and it’s undeniable that she herself was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
"On behalf of Livingstone Shire, thank you and Rest In Peace your Majesty."
In lieu of a physical condolence book, Buckingham Palace has indicated that online ‘Messages of Support and Condolence’ are preferred. The official State of Queensland Condolence Book is open at the qld.gov.au webpage.
