Taste Capricorn Coast in the Spotlight at National Awards

Livingstone Shire Council is pleased to announce that Taste Capricorn Coast has been named as a finalist at the National Economic Development Awards.

A joint project between Livingstone Shire Council and Capricorn Enterprise and funded by the Australian Government’s Tourism Bushfire Recovery grants program, Taste Capricorn Coast has been a resounding success for Livingstone Shire Council’s businesses, residents, and visitors since its launch in 2021.

Taste Capricorn Coast is a celebration of local flavours. The trail is a colourful array of producers, eateries, retail outlets, markets, and farm experiences, all gathered across detailed maps allowing users to self-explore the trail.

Mayor Andrew Ireland, Portfolio Holder of Economic Development, said the trail has been vital for assisting the economic recovery of the Capricorn Coast following the bushfires.

“This project has boosted visitor numbers to our region who then explore and stay overnight to appreciate and experience our first class agri-tourism industry,” Mayor Ireland said.

“In addition, the project has increased awareness across the community of the need to conserve our natural environment and support local farmers.

“The collaboration between Livingstone Shire Council and Capricorn Enterprise to deliver Taste Capricorn Coast has been a real success, generating an exceptional experience for vendors, consumers and the community.”

Mary Carroll, CEO of Capricorn Enterprise, said Taste Capricorn Coast has provided visitors and locals with the opportunity to know exactly where their food has come from and how many miles it has travelled before it arrives on their plate

“Taste Capricorn Coast assists to guide and educate the locavores in our community to access the many and varied options on the Capricorn Coast.”

“Capricorn Enterprise is extremely proud of this project. We have an incredible amount of local passion and knowledge in one community and as the increasing appetite for ‘home-grown’ further develops, this is the first step in putting the Capricorn Coast on the map as a culinary destination of choice,” said Ms Carroll.

The Taste Capricorn Coast Food Trail has been an exciting project to deliver in partnership with Capricorn Enterprise, and Livingstone Shire Council are proud to have been able to provide a unique experience for those travelling along our beautiful region.
