A new child care centre in Taranganba has been given the tick of approval by Livingstone Shire Council yesterday.

The development, by applicant Corrigated Pty Ltd Tte, will be situated on 1.2 hectares within Cerulean Estate at Lot 10 Taranganba Road, adjacent to the primary school.

According to the proposal, the child care centre will provide long-day care and a kindergarten program for up to 180 children and provide 27 full-time jobs.

Mayor Andy Ireland said this is the third child care centre that Council has approved in the past year.

“As one of the fastest growing regional areas of Queensland, it’s fantastic to see developments that provide additional child care placements and support jobs within our community,” Mayor Ireland said.

“There are long waiting lists for child care services and these new centres will help ease the demand, making it easier for parents and carers to secure a placement for their children.

“Child care availability is vital for our long-term economy as it reduces disincentives for parents to work and expands access to quality early childhood education for our future generation.”

The development plans indicate that the centre will accommodate children ranging in age from babies to 4+ years within 10 separate internal rooms with each room having direct access to outdoor play areas enclosed by an acoustic fence.

The site will be accessed via an unnamed road reserve off Taranganba Road and includes onsite parking for at least 37 cars.

Once constructed the centre is proposed to operate between 6.15 am and 6.15 pm, Monday to Friday.
