Nominate your local Livingstone hero for a 2023 Australia Day Award!

Do you know a dedicated person or community group that deserves to be recognised for the work they do? Help them gain the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a 2023 Australia Day Award.

The annual Livingstone Shire Council Australia Day Awards acknowledge unsung heroes within our community and celebrate the people who work selflessly to make our region a better place.

Awards nominations officially open today and are being accepted across five categories; Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group Service Award, Living Legend Award, and the Outstanding Dedication to Public Service Award.

Now is your chance to thank those individuals, organisations or groups who are the backbone of Livingstone Shire and who you admire for doing great things in our community.

Australia Day Award’s Committee Chair Councillor Adam Belot said the Livingstone Shire Council Australia Day Awards are the perfect opportunity to celebrate ordinary Australians making extraordinary contributions by giving back to their community in many ways.

“We all know someone who goes above and beyond. They could be volunteering at the local sports club, raising money for charity, organising community events, or simply supporting those in need,” Cr Belot said.

“These people demonstrate what it means to be truly Australian – working hard, giving back, and showing pride in support of their community, and this is your chance to shine a spotlight on them.

“Think about who has made you proud in the past year and who inspires you to reflect, respect and celebrate what it means to be Australian.

“Whether it be a workmate, neighbour, friend, family member or community group, if someone springs to mind, I encourage you to share their story and let them know they are appreciated by nominating them for an award.

“All you need to do is visit Council’s website and fill out a short nomination form to ensure that your local hero is recognised for the work they do.

“Being nominated for an Australia Day Award is a great honour and I look forward to meeting the 2023 nominees and award recipients.”
