Wellness at the Coast promotes the importance of ‘Awareness, Belonging, Connection’

Livingstone Shire Council will be holding its annual Wellness at the Coast event on Friday 14 October to highlight the importance of individual and community mental health and wellbeing, as part of Queensland Mental Health Week (8-16 October 2022).

Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) is an annual awareness initiative that encourages all of us to think about our mental health and wellbeing and encourages help-seeking behaviours.

The 2022 theme identifies the three most important factors that help people to maintain positive mental and health well-being - ‘Awareness, Belonging, Connection’.

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community, said each year people across Livingstone Shire come together at our free Wellness at the Coast event to enjoy an informative day jam-packed with calming and educational activities.

“The event aims to boost awareness of mental illness, reduce stigma and discrimination and celebrate the contribution of the mental health and community sectors.

“It is important that we continue highlighting the importance of connection, so that we create space for open and honest conversations about mental health and wellbeing with our community and loved ones,” said Cr Eastwood.

“This year’s Wellness at the Coast features a range of activities including guest speakers, panel discussion, workshops, yoga, as well as stallholders with information and resources about overall wellness and mental health.

“Nutrition, self-care rituals and creating calm in chaos are just a few of the topics that our guest speakers will cover in addition to hearing about lived experiences with mental health journeys.

“To end the day on a high, we’re welcoming Tibetan-Australian artist Tenzin Choegyal who will take his audience on a spiritual journey with his exquisite style of music at a ticketed event later in the evening.”

Council would like to thank the Queensland Government, Queensland Mental Health Commission, and CheckUp for sponsoring and supporting the event.
