Scenic Highway sewer upgrades underway

Livingstone Shire Council will begin the big task of upgrading the sewer infrastructure adjacent to Scenic Highway this month.

A new 450mm diameter sewer main will be installed between the Wattle Grove sewer pump station and Cedar Park to increase the capacity of the network.

Mayor Andy Ireland said Council has to invest in this infrastructure to ensure our system can cater for our growing population.

“The pump station has the capacity to manage the incoming volume of sewage but the existing 375mm sewer main is overloaded and restricting the operation of the network,” Mayor Ireland said.

“This upgrade will benefit the shire well into the future by improving the sewer system which services several suburbs.

“The project includes excavation work, installation of almost one kilometre of pipework and replacement of the shared pathway.

“Some street trees in the construction zone will be carefully removed and reinstated by a local arborist.

“All efforts will be made by the project team to minimise the impact on road users and pedestrians during the construction period.

“Work will be underway until late 2023 and is not expected to impact households during this time.

“Council will continue to communicate with the community throughout the construction period, particularly around the need for any traffic management or road closures that may need to be put in place.”
