Krabtastic Festival cancelled following government advice to ban large gatherings

Council has made the decision to cancel next month’s Krabtastic Festival at Keppel Sands as a safety precaution following the Australian Government’s advice on limiting the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

A Council spokesperson said while it was unfortunate the community event would not take place on April 10 – 11, the community’s health and safety was the priority during this time as the situation continues to unfold.

“It’s important that everyone follows the advice from Queensland Health and the Australian Government to ensure we can all assist in slowing the spread of the virus,” the spokesperson said.

“As Krabtastic Festival is an Easter weekend event, it will be cancelled rather than postponed to a later date in the year.

“Council appreciates the community’s co-operation in following the advice from Queensland Health as well as the Queensland and Australian Governments and urges the community to look out for one another in the weeks and months ahead.

“Council is also implementing a number of measures for employees within the organisation and will keep the community informed on its actions as the situation develops.”

There are 5 ways we can all help stop the spread of virus:

  • Clean your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rubs;
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or bent elbow when coughing or sneezing;
  • Avoid touching your face, nose and mouth, and avoid shaking hands;
  • Stay home if you are unwell;
  • Avoid contact with anyone who is unwell – try to stay 1.5m away from anyone coughing or sneezing.
