Livingstone Shire Council is Sharing the Love this Library Lover’s Day

Libraries in Livingstone Shire are feeling the love this February, with celebrations and competitions in store for Library Lover’s Day.

Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated Australia-wide on February 14th, and Livingstone Shire Libraries will share the love for the whole month to celebrate the joy our libraries bring to the local community.

This year’s theme is Only You and highlights how libraries can enrich the lives of the community in big and small ways.

Councillor Rhodes Watson, Portfolio Holder of Vibrant Community, said the local community are better off for our region’s libraries.

“February 14th is the day we typically celebrate love, and our region’s book lovers are no exception,” Councillor Watson said.

“Our libraries offer so much more than an avenue to borrow books. They can be a place for quiet study and reflection, an information point for assistance, a connection to the local community or a place to take advantage of the free wi-fi.

“I urge the community to participate in Library Lover’s Day and celebrate the love we all have for our community’s libraries.”

Library Lovers’ Day was initially started in Australia in 2006 by the State Library of New South Wales (NSW). However, the day became a national holiday in 2007 when the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) joined in on the campaign to promote their passion for books and raise awareness regarding library services.

Visit your local Livingstone Shire Library in person any time in February, borrow from our collection, and you will go in the draw to win a double pass to the GOLD ROOM, where you will experience a luxury escape at Yeppoon Cinemas.
