Council is pleased to announce local arts organisation, Keppel Coast Arts, will take on the role of licence holders of Fig Tree Galleries from this month.
KCA will manage all gallery operations over the next 12 months and assist with the creation of Council’s long-term operational activation plan for the site.
Keppel Coast Arts (KCA) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit community organisation aimed at building and strengthening the arts and cultural activities of the Capricorn Coast community through the development and support of projects and artists initiatives.
Portfolio holder of Vibrant Community (Tourism, Arts Culture), Councillor Rhodes Watson, said KCA will oversee hiring of the spaces, curating upcoming exhibitions, as well as assisting in organising events and workshops.
Councillor Watson was instrumental in leading discussions with various local artists about the future of Fig Tree Galleries and recognises the importance of supporting and promoting local arts and culture.
“Keppel Coast Arts plays a vital role within the arts community here in Livingstone, and Council is pleased to welcome KCA and its depth of knowledge and expertise that the organisation brings with it,” Cr Watson said.
“Since its opening in 2021 there have been 14 exhibitions held and 26 bookings for the workshop space, highlighting the importance of the venue and its growing popularity within the community and wider Central Queensland region.
“Fig Tree Galleries will continue to be a vibrant and contemporary space for artists and visitors to enjoy for years to come.”
KCA President Leanne Smith said it was thrilled to join in partnership with Council to continue its support of cultivating local arts and culture in Livingstone Shire.
“This year’s calendar is filling up fast with an exciting variety of inspirational and creative exhibitions, programs and workshops, and we are looking forward to welcoming the community and visitors along to be part of the experience,” Leanne said.
The $1.3 million Mill Gallery Expansion project (Fig Tree Galleries) opening in 2021, was proudly funded by the Queensland Government in association with Livingstone Shire Council.
