Council to Streamline Parking Options in Yeppoon and Deliver Savings to Ratepayers

Livingstone Shire Council has resolved to end the lease of the temporary car park at the intersection of Queen and Barry Streets, streamlining car parking options within the Yeppoon CBD and delivering significant savings to ratepayers.

The decision was made in an Ordinary Council Meeting in February, and the carpark will be unavailable to the public from Monday 3 April 2023.

Mayor Andy Ireland said the decision made by Council was a practical step to reducing costs in the Shire.

“The temporary car park was always intended to be a short-term solution until the multi-storey car park was constructed, however the lease was extended, and Council has now decided to terminate it for several reasons,” Mayor Island said.

“In addition to paying the rates, the lease costs Council $1,133 per month, and the temporary car park and nearby car parks are typically only at fifty percent capacity during weekdays.

“With repair works on the multi-story car park expected to be completed by late April and multiple alternative parking options nearby, the needs of the community and tourists are well catered for.

“This decision was considered carefully and is a practical step to reduce costs in the Shire.”

Residents and motorists can rest assured that suitable alternative parking options are available nearby, including the multi-storey car park and an uncovered ground-level parking area behind the main bus stop on Hill Street.
